The relationship between Greed and Ling Yao is central to the narrative but often misunderstood. Initially, they are separate entities and enemies; it is only after Greed is defeated by Edward Elric and Ling Yao together, then captured by Father, that Father extracts Greed and places him into Ling's body, creating a unique contract allowing them to share a single body and swap consciousnesses. Crucially, this pact does not grant Ling biological immortality; he remains fully mortal despite his connection to the Homunculus.
